This company aims to provide matriculates from working class and poor families with the means to further their education. This is done in accordance to the skills development act of the country and is very successful in providing skilled workers to the workforce of South Africa.
What Does the Bursary Program Offer?
The NSFAS bursary program offers candidates from all areas of the country the opportunity to further their study. They have a wide field of study available for candidates to select from.
These include, but is not limited to the following:
- Education – Foundation Phase
- Education – Intermediate Phase
- Education – Training Phase
- Education – Senior Phase
- Social work
- Event Planning and Management
Most fields made available will be within the scarce skills fields as set out by Government.
Costs Covered by the Bursary
NSFAS bursaries will cover most or all of the following costs depending on the candidates needs. A Means Test will be conducted to asses this need. Most bursaries will cover costs up to R60 000 fluctuation according to need.
Study related fees that are included are as follow:
- Tuition fees
- Study material or book fees as prescribed
- Accommodation fees
- Traveling feed
- Meal fees
Successful candidates are not required to pay back any fees received towards their education.
Requirements for NSFAS Bursary
Each applicant will need to adhere to the basic requirements and also any requirements as set out by the company in accordance to the field of study or Institute of learning.
Most candidates will be required to have the following:
- Candidates must be a South African citizen
- Candidates must have a valid Matric
- Candidates must have a valid ID document
- Candidates must have a proof of acceptance from the institute of higher learning where apply to
- Candidates must provide proof of income for either parents, guardians or proof of deceased where applicable
- Candidates must provide ID documentation for parents or guardians
- Candidates must be capable within the English language
Candidates that apply must complete all fields of the application form and also meet all additional requirements if any, as set out by the bursary. Candidates who submit incomplete applications or are missing documentation will not be considered.
How to Apply for a NSFAS Bursary
Interested candidates can apply online via the NSFAS website or download the application and forward it to them by email. Candidates must please read all the instructions provided with care and follow them correctly. Only some Universities and TVET Colleges are made available for candidates to study at. This list can also be found on the same page as above.
PLEASE make sure all documentation has the applicants ID number clearly visible in the top right hand corner. All information provided must be true and accurate. Read all questions and make sure you understand them before completing the application.
For online applications it is recommended that candidates use Internet Explorer 8 / 9. Candidates that apply online will receive a conformation SMS once the application has successfully been submitted. On their site candidates will find a check list of all the documentation required. Please ensure you have all the mentioned documentation at hand when applying.
Applications without supporting documentation cannot be considered. The application form along with required documentation will be evaluated in order to qualify candidates. Timeframe That NSFAS Bursary is Open
Applications for bursaries by NSFAS open yearly on the 17th of August and closes on the 30th of November. However, applications for UNISA closes on the 30th of September already. Interested candidates must, therefore, ensure that their applications with all required documentation reach the company before these dates.
There is a great amount of applications received yearly and they can unfortunately only provide funding for a limited amount. Thus, candidates are advised to also apply for alternate funding. Only those candidates that make the short list will be contacted. If you have not heard from them for a period of 2 to 3 months once applications close, please accept your application as being unsuccessful.
