This Government Department aims at providing gifted candidates the opportunity to learn about correctional services, and become part of the workforce of South Africa. They award learnerships to selected candidates every year. With this program they are reducing poverty and stabilizing the economy of the country.
What Does the Correctional Services Learnership Program Offer?
This program will run its course over a 12 month period and once completed successfully, candidates will receive a NQF Level 4 certificate for correctional services. During the 12 months candidates will receive practical and theoretical training.
Each candidate will learn about the rehabilitation of the prisoners, providing safety and security to prisoners and fire-arm training. Candidates will also learn about self-defense and more.
Costs Covered by Learnership
Selected candidates will also have to sign a learnership contract agreement for the duration of their learnership, and no permanent placement is assured.
During the 12 month period, candidates will be receiving a uniform, meals, accommodation and all training material for the first part of their learnership, the theory part. During the workplace training, candidates will however, need to have their own transport, accommodation and meals. They will be receiving a monthly stipend during their learnership year.
Applicants must be a citizen of South Africa with a valid ID document. Candidates with additional qualifications except for their Matric certificate will be given preference.
Basic requirements for learnership are:
- Valid Matric certificate
- Fluent in English
- No criminal record
- Between 21 and 35 years of age
There may also be other requirements as set out by this department.
